Another year: BLESSED!

Hey y’all!

It is early Monday morning, something like past midnight and I have to go to work in a few hours. I just got off the phone with one of my friends from NCR as I learned some sad news today, that we lost another dear friend from a heart attack. May he RIP.

With that said, before I start writing this post, I’d like to say how blessed I am to be here and so consequently decided to title this post exactly that, “Another year: BLESSED”.

This is my birthday post and as much as I’d love to get into details, it will be very long. So, I will give you the Cliff Notes version of how I celebrated this year, birthday-week style.

1) 4/25 (Sat) –  My mom & sister threw me a birthday party at the house and it was just so perfect. I haven’t actually had a party thrown for me in many, many, years. As much as I love small-doses of attention, i’m actually not a big “in the spotlight” kind of person. I’ve never really had big parties for birthdays or anything like that. This year, I wanted to do something different and actually send invitations out and cater food and all that jazz for a get together. I had my party at home because I wanted everyone to be there; my mom, my sister, my niece & nephew, our friends with kids, and also my friends without kids. That way we can all just hang out at home and not have to worry about going to a “no kids allowed” place etc. I think my party had a pretty good turnout. Everyone I invited showed up and the last guest left around 2 or 3 AM. 🙂 It was a grand time; Wonderful food & even better company.

2) 4/27 (Mon) – After my weekend festivities, my friend and I went to watch “Death Cab for Cutie” in concert at the Fox Theater. It was a great time. Definitely hipster central..but who said I wasn’t one? Lol. J/K.

3) 4/29 (Wed) – HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! Showed up to work and was surprised with awesome balloons tied up to my chair and a bday card from the team. Oh, AND cake! 🙂 Since we had a big do that Saturday, my fam took me to The Cheesecake Factory for birthday dins and not to forget.. I went to my first ever HOA meeting that evening before dinner. *Feeling old*

4) 4/30 (Thurs) – Went to work as per usual and met up with my friend for Aerials Silks class at AK. After we tumbled, flipped & hung around on silks for about an hour, we headed to Bartaco for some noms. Two of my other friends showed up too, so that was nice!

5) 5/1 (Fri) – Didn’t go out to town that night. Felt so lazy.. but we went to karaoke instead. 🙂

Can’t believe I didn’t take any pics. Wow.

6) 5/2 (Sat) – Volunteered in the AM followed by brunch in the sun. Totally came back home after that and laid out in the back yard. Yes!

7) 5/3 (Sun) – Babysat my nephew and met up with the rest of the clan at the Avalon. Love that place!

Seriously though, I definitely feel “older” now but instead of stressing out about age, I really am at a good place right now. You know when people say that they have no complains? Well, that’s pretty much me too.

To all those that wished me a Happy Birthday, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH YOU GUYS ROCK!!

Sleepless in Seattle

If you want to venture out West, I highly recommend, Seattle.

Seattle is so unique. A city that is full with history; think of the one time the city got burned down as it was built entirely out of wood,  and now stands erected with tall skyscrapers and the mystery of the underground, remnants of the past life, still beneath the streets. Think of the totem poles that now stand in Pioneer Square, telling stories and myths of our older societies. Think of the quirky and equally gross gum wall near Post-Alley at Pike Place Market, how it became what it is just from people sticking gum to the wall while waiting to purchase movie tickets back in the old days. And now think of it as a home to the largest coffee franchise and the largest online distributor in the world; Starbucks & Amazon. Not to forget, home to Microsoft & Boeing. Seattle has it all.

I really enjoyed this city. I thought that it had the perfect mix of downtown/urban living but is still accessible to the mountains, lakes and the ocean. It was beautiful, picturesque and quirky. I thought that most Seattlites were very friendly too. Never too tired or too annoyed to answer questions from travelers, always eager to help. The only downside to it was, were there many homeless people there or what? They were pretty vocal and seemed aggressive as well. However, I think that there’s a way to approach them in a less intrusive and approachable manner. I believe they’d respect you for that.

Seattle was very artsy and when I say artsy, I really mean, Hipster. LOL. Men are all bearded, smart & cultured, which is a rarity in Georgia (for the most part). I would love to go back again, to visit for a few days.. maybe go up to Portland. I heard that place is weird too.

Let’s reminisce shall we?

The Search for the Best Dress (Non-Bridal Edition)

Hello pretty ladies.

This post is dedicated to the most overwhelming dress shopping experience I had to date! I’m sure we could all relate.

I was invited to my friend’s engagement party a couple of months ago and when I received the e-vite,  I remember it being “so far away”. When I realized that I had 3 days to shop for a dress, all hell broke loose. It was the MOST overwhelming shopping experience for me and if you know me, shopping is NEVER overwhelming.

Since Americans are pretty casual in general (which I hate), I was beyond excited for this event because it gave me a reason to dress up to the nines. I wanted to find a non-basic dress that would be perfect for this event and could possibly be worn again someplace and sometime else.

However, the weather during the week of the party was in the low 40s and we all know what that translates to; either freeze your ass off or wear another ugly sweater dress, which are both nonsense in my dictionary…The exact reasons why I was stressed out.

Let’s see all the dresses I tried on.

Dress #1 – I loved this dress but the only downer was the price tag. It is an Adriana Papel dress from Macy’s and I think it was in the $200 range.

Dress #2 – Cute pink dress but very bridesmaid’s-ey. Also Adriana Papel from Macy’s.

Dress #3 – I LOVED this dress too! I can see myself wearing this over and over again but my sister said that I have a dress just like it (which I do) and it’s too safe. This baby here is from Zara and around $60.

Dress #4 – Another dress that I love!! My brother in law said that it looks like an iconic 1950’s housewife dress. I think he nailed it on that one!

Dress #5 – I thought this was cute too.. I liked the gem stones and the light color. This was from Ann Taylor, which is now my new favorite store.

Dress #6 – This dress was also from Ann Taylor and I loved the color and the shape of the dress. It was about $100 and I figured that I could wear this again possibly to work or a holiday party. I loved how this dress made me feel as it hugged me in the right areas of my body.

Dress #7 – I love tulle skirts but this was more appropriate for a birthday party or a quincenera. You pick. This dress was from Francesca’s.

Dress #8 – I LOVED this dress a lot! This was from Express and I think it was about $60 as well.

So..which dress did I end up buying??

You guessed it right! Dress #6. I wore this with my black wool coat from Zara and donned curly hair, red lips and blush heels for the night. I felt really pretty and had an even better time with friends. Phew! Glad that was over. Now, on to the next one…
